​My research bridges computer vision & machine learning with human cognition & human computer interaction. I draw inspiration from human cognition to develop representations for computer vision and build compositional, interpretable, few-shot machine learning models. Similarly, I use the advances in machine learning to enable agents that can learn to interact with people and learn from those interactions.

Ranjay Krishna is a PhD Candidate in the Artificial Intelligence Lab at Stanford University, where he is co-advised by Professor Fei-Fei Li and Professor Michael Bernstein. His research interests lie at the intersection of computer vision, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. His research explores ways of developing never-ending visual learning agents that learn to interact with people while simultaneously learn how to interact with people. He is also a teaching fellow at Stanford and designed and teaches two courses on computer vision. He has a Masters of Science in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University. Before that, he conferred a Double Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a second degree in Computer Science from Cornell University. In the past, he has worked at Google AI, Facebook Artificial Intelligence Lab, Yahoo Research and Microsoft.

CS231N Convolutional Neural Networks for Visual Recognition 
[2025]

This is one of the largest courses at Stanford with an enrollment of 600 students in 2025. 
The course exposes students to modern deep learning optimization algorithms, convnet architecture design techniques, and uses these methods to tackle various tasks like object detection, semantic segmentation, image captioning, visual question answering, image generation, and scene graph generation. I inherited this course from Andrej Karpathy, Justin Johnson and Serena Yeung, who were the previous instructors.

​CS131 Computer Vision: Foundations and Applications ​[2025] [加速器去哪里下载] [2017]

I designed this class on computer vision to dive deeper into the fundamentals of why we use discrete convolutions, deriving its formula from linear dynamical systems. The course uses convolutions to develop operations over pixels, and then over segments and finally over whole images and videos. The course provides a historical perspective of how Computer Vision has evolved from the 60's to the end of 2012, where we use the same convolution formula within neural networks. The course had 150 enrolled students in 2025.

We open sourced all the slides and assignments for the class so that anyone willing to learn can do so.
